Tri the Hook 2019 wishes to acknowledge the kind support of:
“Beautiful Swim! The type of swim you want to go back out and do again” Niall Breslin
The 750 metre swim takes place in the historic Baginbun Bay. A sheltered route, the race is a run-in from the beach. Approximately 110 competitors per wave. If you are a novice and nervous about the swim please let us know, we’ll provide you with a different colour hat so our marshals on the water can keep an eye out for you!
This is a 20 km cycle on country roads. Competitors have described this as “very technical” with “a good mix of challenging inclines”. The cycle is a loop route on roads open to the public and traffic. There is a 20 meter climb at 19km and the final couple of kms are over winding country roadways with with inclines and dips.
This is a 5km run which moves along the Baginbun road in the direction of Fethard on sea village. At 1.5 km in, there is a right turn off the R734 on to the Quay Road. Continue to Fethard harbour and then a U turn to arrive back at the R734. Left turn back up the hill towards the GAA grounds located on the right hand side.
Enter the GAA grounds and approx 800 metre run along perimeter, to complete 5km on the pitch.
Located at St Mogues GAA Grounds which is straight through the village of Fethard-on-Sea, up the hill and on the right hand side. There is a good finishing chute for a competitive finish with loads of space for a family picnic or photographs; and to wind down. Water will be available for competitors.
It is a short walk to transition from here and parking will be available adjacent to this area.
Showers available in the GAA Clubhouse afterwards. Toilets are located at the GAA Clubhouse (Registration and Finish Point); at Transition there are 2 x Portaloos Cool Down area and shower facilities at GAA Clubhouse.
